In Canada there are many health awareness days, weeks, or months and the month of February is heart month!

Fun Fact

Did you know that the heart muscle beats around 100,000 times a day? With every beat the heart is pumping blood through the body delivering oxygen and nutrients to our cells and removing carbon dioxide and waste products. This is why is it so important to keep our hearts healthy.

Maintaining a Healthy Heart

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada says the best way to mitigate against risk factors that cause premature heart disease is through a healthy lifestyle including eating well, getting active, maintaining a healthy body weight and reducing stress. Easier said than done, right? With life being so busy it can sometimes be hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle but it isn't impossible. Start by making small changes and build from there to create a healthier overall lifestyle.

Note: Before starting a weight loss or physical activity program, speak to your healthcare provider first to discuss what is right for you.
